Mwendwa capable of reinventing FKF, Amenga

Kariobangi Sharks Head Coach Michael Amenga has lauded the election of immediate former club chairman, Nick Mwendwa saying he has all the qualities needed to transform the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

“Mwendwa is a man who knows his job – he is a perfectionist and for this reason I’m sure he is going to bring changes to the FKF,” Amenga added while speaking to Citizen TV at Utalii Grounds where his side is holding a training camp.

The tactician of the Nationwide Division One side confirmed the new FKF boss was already setting up structures to assist Sharks saying that renovations to the playing ground are already underway.

“Apart from the lead role he is playing in ensuring our grounds are more acceptable in standards, Nick has also played a part in helping lure more mature players into the team,” Amenga asserted.

He played down the notion that Sharks’ mooted promotion to the Kenyan Premier League had a political drive behind it saying that his side merited the climb after finishing fourth during last season’s FKF PL.

This comes after stinging criticism levelled against Nick Mwendwa for allegedly trying to ‘use his powers’ to get his former team promoted to the top flight.

“If I am told today that my team will be playing in the KPL then I will play there because I know the team has the quality to compete at top level. However, at the moment we are finalizing our off-season training preparations before the new FKF Premier League season kicks off.

He also took time to laud new Harambee Stars coach saying the decision to appoint Stanley Okumbi was wise and timely, citing his youthfulness and the fact that he easily recognizes and understands talent straight from the grassroots level.

“Okumbi is a young coach and sometimes winning over the dressing room and earning respect from players is a challenge for any coach his age. However, with the experience gained during the time he spent at Mathare, I know that this should be a non-issue,” he said of the former Sharks and KPL side Mathare United boss.

Amenga reiterated that Okumbi will need the support of everyone within Kenya’s football circles if he is to achieve any concrete results.
