Mwendwa rallies fan support for Stars clash with Taifa

FKF President Nick Mwendwa has called upon Kenyan football fans to come out in large numbers and rally behind the national football team, Harambee Stars in their second leg CHAN qualifiers match against Tanzania tomorrow at Kasarani.

Speaking at a pre-match media briefing on Saturday at the match after a training session of the Kenyan team, Mwendwa assured the fans of their security.

“We have planed our security details so well; all the 24 entrances will be manned by regular police, General Services Units (GSUs) and the NYS beginning from Safari park entrance.”

“There will be no segregation of our fans since the entrance ticket is standardized and anybody with a ticket will seat anywhere so as to minimize cases of disruption,” he explained.

According to Mwendwa, having standard tickets will draw more fans to Kasarani and provide the ease of accessing the stadium as well as monitoring. Stars will be counting on the 12th man support in their quest to down the Taifa Stars.

This comes after chaos were witnessed during Kariobangi Sharks and Everton match where police were forced to use teargas to disperse the huge crowd that had filled the stadium to the brim.

Furthermore, the FKF boss dismissed the ongoing speculations that there is unrest in Stars camp following financial crunch facing the team. Mwendwa confirmed that there is indeed no fund remitted from the government despite making a requisition on June 20.

“Everyone knows the ministry has not remitted the cash, I have talked to the boys concerning the same and they told me they are ready to play for the flag, we went to Tanzania and we played without the money and we did not lack anything,” he added.

Stars is three matches away from making a maiden CHAN appearance and a win against Taifa Stars who have been in the competition once will place Kenya close to the competition as they await to meet Sudan in another two leg fixture by the end of September.

Harambee Stars pride itself with a clean record at Kasarani having downed the likes of Ethiopia and Ghana in the past AFCON qualification fixtures.
