Mwinano upbeat Commandos will click after maiden NSL win

After recording their first win in the National Super League (NSL) on Sunday, Green Commandos head coach Brendan Mwinamo believes the turning point in their quest to cement authority in the competition, was marked in the victory.

Green Commandos, playing in the league for the first season, crawled to position 15 on the 19-team log with five points after six matches, by beating Isibania 4-1. Mwinamo, thus, stated time for their smooth run has come.

“We motivated the players and they adhered to what they were told them, and eventually we won. We shall continue to encourage them more in the forthcoming matches, because we have realized they have not been strong mentally, which is a key element in football,” Mwinamo told Citizen Digital.

The Kakamega High School teacher further revealed lack of sponsorship has dented the management’s efforts to boost player’s morale.

“It is not easy to motivate players with just words, sometimes you need monetary motivation. It is however difficult on our side knowing we are operating without a sponsor,” decried the tactician.

Commandos are in the same bracket with St. Joseph Youth, GFE 105 and Administration Police who have only one win from the seven rounds played.

Only Nakuru All Stars has not won a match, and remains bottom on the log after losing all their matches.

Green Commandos were promoted to the NSL after garnering 52 points to be crowned the 2017 FKF Division One, Zone B champions, but have struggled to gain momentum in the second tier league.
