My defenders could have been involved in match fixing: Zoo coach

Zoo Kericho FC tactician Herman Iswekha has sensationally claimed that some of his defenders could have been involved in match fixing.

Zoo has had a poor campaign conceding 26 goals, one of the highest in the league, only bettered by Chemelil Sugar (46), Kisumu All Stars (27), and Nzoia Sugar (27), and the coach believes his players could have been involved in foul play.

“In the previous matches we have played, I have been suspecting that my players were involved in match fixing. We were not meant to concede some of  the cheap goals and all the blames go to the defenders,” Iswekha exclusively told Citizen Digital.

“Why were they allowing in their area opposing strikers without tackling them, we raised our suspicion and it could be due to the financial difficulties in our team but that should not be the case,” he added.

“We had no option rather than releasing almost seven players, many of them being defenders because as a team we felt that if we continue keeping them the script would be repeated,” said Iswekha.

According to Iswekha, the club has released six players among them Sammy Sindani, Dennis Otieno, Norman Werunga, Martin Elung’at and Japheth Amakanji.

At the same time Iswekha believes there was a need to freshen up his defence which he believes was aging.

“Most of our defenders were a bit old. This made them perform poorly therefore we decided to give opportunities to young players, new energy and new blood which can beef up our defence,” he added.

The coach however assured that they will win their match against Kakamega Homeboyz slated for  this Wednesday at the Kericho Green Stadium, as they seek to revamp the team after conceding consecutive losses.

Zoo have lost three matches in a row against Western Stima, Ulinzi Stars and AFC Leopards.

“We are preparing well for our match against Homeboyz and I am sure that they (Homeboyz)will travel back without a point. My players came on time for training, this shows the optimism of winning our match on Wednesday,” Iswekha assured.

According to Iswekha, all his players are available for selection for the Homeboyz’s match.
