Nairobi devolve Ugatuzi to chalk-up first win in KICOSCA

Nairobi County football team on Wednesday thumped Ugatuzi team 5-1 to register their first win in the ongoing Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games as the annual competition entered day three at Kericho Technical Training Collage grounds in Kericho County.

Cyrus Oloo and Alex Mwangi scored a brace apiece as five-star Nairobi bounced from a similar score line defeat inflicted by Meru on Tuesday to revive their chances of storming to the quarter finals. They drew 1-1 against Samburu in their opening match on Monday.

Nairobi went 1-0 up in the 17th minute after Oloo dribbled past hapless Ugatuzi defenders and placed the ball into the back of an empty net, before he applied a simple tap-in on George Sunguti’s cross five minutes later to double their lead.

The Nairobi staff team continued with their onslaught against the devolution team with Peter Opiyo striking a chip shot in crowded Ugatuzi’s defense to set the scores to 3-0 at half-time whistle.

The George Sunguti coached side went 4-0 in the 52nd minute with Alex Mwangi’s cross diverted to his own net by goalie Peter Mwash before Mwangi scored the fifth one from the  spot after Mwash fouled Oliver Sambo, Mwangi sending the keeper the wrong side placing the ball into the right side of the goal.

Ugatuzi got their consolation goal four minutes before the final whistle from Chrispine Opiyo.

County 047 started the game with flashes of threat almost going up in the 6th minute but Meshack  Opiyo volley was denied by wood work.

Ugatuzi threatened to return to the game in second half after substituting in their top scorer John Amalla who changed the game giving confidence his side to go upfront but the fight did not bear goals.

The seventh edition of the games, which has attracted over 7,000 participants for various games from all the 47 counties in Kenya will end on Saturday.
