Nakumatt FC, Zoo FC win to keep Nzoia chase alive

Nakumatt FC bounced back to winning ways with a 1-0 triumph over struggling St. Joseph FC in a National Super League (NSL) match played at Nairobi’s Ruaraka Grounds on Sunday, 2.

The win sees Nakumatt take their point tally for the season to 55, nine below leaders Nzoia United after 26 rounds while their Nakuru-based opponents remain 18th on 22 points.

A second half strike from Joseph Wanyonyi is all the hosts needed to seal an important win and move five clear of the chasing pack led by Zoo Kericho FC and Vihiga United who are joint third on 50 points.

At the Awendo stadium, goals from Ligale Johnstone, Nicholas Kipkirui and a second half brace from Ernest Kipkoech helped Zoo complete a 4-0 drubbing of bottom placed Shabana FC to catch up with Vihiga United who dropped points at home to FC Talanta on Saturday.

Despite creating the better chances in the second half, St. Joseph were pegged back by poor finishing and were ultimately punished as Wanyonyi scored in the 54th minute and there was hardly any way back for the visitors who saw two of their men forced off due to injury.

“I always tell my boys, they dribble, make long passes and enjoy the match but the first mission is always to earn points. If I could have lost, it could be very sad on my side due to stiff competition.

“Am working on my striking force so that we can rectify the simple mistakes we had. Long passes will really cost us,” Nakumatt’s Head Coach, Gianni Troiani, told Citizen Digital.
