Nakumatt hold Leopards, Sofapaka sink Zoo

AFC Leopards squandered a two-goal lead as Nakumatt FC fought back to earn a 2-2 draw in Machakos and prolong head coach Rodolfo Zapata’s maiden Kenyan Premier League (KPL) win.

Leopards had put themselves in a commanding position thanks to Whyvonne Isuza’s brace inside the opening 34 minutes and appeared to be coasting toward only their first win in eight matches. But Nakumatt simply refused to lie down as Eugene Ambulwa and Brian Nyakan both scored late during an inspired second half spell to pinch an unlikely point for Anthony Mwangi’s men.

In the early kick-off at the same venue, goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo put in a monstrous shift between the sticks as Bandari FC forced a 0-0 draw with Mathare United.

It extended Mathare’s winless run to five matches as they lost further ground in their title chase following a remarkable start to the season.

In Narok, Sofapaka FC claimed a 2-1 comeback win over Zoo Kericho FC. Mike Madoya had put the visitors ahead after a fast start but Humphrey Okoti and Stephen Waruru scored to lift Sofapaka into fourth on the KPL table.
