Nakumatt in Nzoia chase as they host Police FC

Nakumatt FC head to the clash of the weekend when they host Police FC on Sunday knowing that another slip up would see them drift further behind league leaders Nzoia FC as the National Super League (NSL) enters its 21st round.

The Sugar Millers won their game in hand against Gusii-based club, Shabana FC, on Wednesday and now the pressure of playing catch up will be upon the Retailers to try closing the six-point gap that separates the two.

Nakumatt are desperate to cast away a bad spell that has seen them lose two matches in a row that includes a disappointing 2 – 1 defeat against Ligi Ndogo FC, a side fighting relegation during their Saturday clash at the Camp Toyoyo Stadium.

“It’s disappointing that we have lost six crucial points that have cost us so dearly. We underrated a relegation threatened side and it is a mistake we regret,” Nakumatt Secretary General, Albert Wesonga told Citizen Digital.

“We’re back to the drawing board, insisting the importance of focus and commitment from our players. We also need to be more competitive and aggressive against our opponents,” he added.

Former two-time national champions Nzoia are the only unbeaten side in the second tier with a record of 14 wins and six draws adding up to their overhaul of 48 points.

The club’s Team Manager, Evans Kadenge, has warned his players that they cannot afford to rest on their laurels when they play Bidco saying that the Thika-based side is not as weak as their form may suggest.

“We are not underestimating Bidco. It is the team we respect especially considering they have the second best form on paper over the last five games. They will definitely give us a competitive fixture,” he added.

“We’ll need to be clinical in front of goal if we expect any positive result.”

Sixth-placed Nakuru All Stars welcome Ligi Ndogo at Nakuru’s Afraha stadium on Sunday afternoon seeking to return to winning ways following a 1-0 away loss to Agrochemicals FC.

Bottom-placed side Shabana travel to twelfth-placed Wazito FC while in other matches, FC Moyas host Agrochemicals, Vihiga play against St. Joseph and Nairobi Stima face against Oserian.

Zoo Kericho FC, third on 37 points, will rest this weekend before resuming their promotion chase next week when they will host Mombasa’s side Modern Coast Rangers who sit 14th (21) after failing to register victory in their last three
