Nakuru ground Machine in huge Kenya Cup statement

Two-time Kenya Cup champions Nakuru RFC demolished Mean Machine 41-7 at Impala Grounds in Nairobi in the most resounding statement of intent as the second round of the new season concluded over the weekend.

Coleman Were and Ignatius Gichure scored a brace for Nakuru who scored seven tries and converted three while Machine, who were expected to come to the party after running champions Kabras Sugar close only to lose 14-13 contest in the season opener only responded with a converted try.

Leading 24-0 at half time, the hosts got other five-pointers through Geoffrey Ominde, Henry Ayah and Felix Oloo.

Lewis Simiyu landed for Machine with Renee Inyanga booting it home for the consolation points with their resounding victory adding to their season opening 26-11 triumph over Mwamba at the Nakuru Athletics Club.

Kabras kept their title defence on course after beating neighbours Western Bulls 17-8 at Mukumu Boys High School.

Tries from Levy Ochieng, Fidel Oloo and Malik Habil ensured Mike Bishop’s charges went to the break leading 17-0 despite losing two key players early in the match after lock George Otieno was withdrawn from the match day 23 due to ilness while skipper Max Adaka picked an injury in the sixth minute.

Earlier determined Blak Blad trailed Impala Saracens 21-18 at half time only to go down 33-18 in another clash played at the Impala.

The win followed up on their 37-22 season opening win over Nondies at the same venue.

Kenya Harlequins and Menengai Cream Homeboyz continued with winning ways as they quashed Strathmore Leos 39-22 and Nondescripts 17-5.

James Kang’ethe, Pius Shiundu, Dennis Muhanji, Eric Shikuku touched down for Quins with Shiundu bagging a hat-trick while Elton Isiaho, Ted Dondi, Churchill Ooko and Elkeans Musonye scored for Strathmore.

 

At the Nairobi ASK Showground, Edwin Wafula scored a penalty, while Kevin Masai and Collins Shikoli bagged tries as Homeboyz dismissed Nondies 17-5 with Eric Okoma scoring for the Red Lion.

Mwamba RFC lost their second match of the season by going down 24-27 to 2015 champions KCB at Railways Club.

Mwamba ran in four tries with KCB also touching down four times plus a penalty. Edwin Salamba, Davis Chenge and Mike Wanjala scored for KCB with Salamba landing a brace while Collins Injera, Greg Odhiambo and Bridgen Sunday touched down for the hosts.

Kenya cup enter round three this weekend.
