NAPSA Stars arrive for CAF Cup playoff contest with Gor

NAPSA Stars arrived in Nairobi yesterday ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup playoff clash with Gor Mahia FC on Sunday.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier says they went to receive the team at the Airport but the visitors turned down their transport offer saying they had made their own prior travel and accommodation arrangements.

‘’Yes they arrived yesterday. I knew they were coming and even made travel arrangements but they declined to use our means saying they were good to go. We are however ready to assist them in any way should they request,’’ said Rachier.

The first leg will be played at the Nyayo National Stadium at 3pm with the return leg a week later in Zambia.

Gor dropped to the Confederation Cup after defeat to Algeria’s CR Belouizdad in the Champions League qualifying round while Napsa Stars advanced after beating UD Songo of Mozambique.

Meanwhile Rachier has admitted delay in settling players’ salaries and allowances but added part of those dues have been settled.

Gor players were reportedly in low spirits in the build up to last weekend’s Mashemeji derby due to wage delays.

‘’Yes it is true last week we had not received money from our sponsors hence failed to pay. But we have now paid them even though we still owe them,’’ added Rachier.

It will be interesting to see Kenyan international defender David Owino ’Calabar’ stop his former team-mates from advancing to the group stage. He joined Napsa Stars last month after leaving Zesco United and will be looking to make an impression in front of his home country fans.

This match will also be played under closed doors following strict government rules on Covid 19 containment measures.
