National Primary Schools’ Ball Games to kick off

Western Kenya’s Nzoia region which dominated last year’s National Primary Schools’ Ball Games Finals face the difficult task of defending their football and handball titles (for both boys and girls) as the games resume on Wednesday, 13 in Eldoret.

Over 1200 pupils are expected at the event which will be hosted in Uasin Gishu’s Hill and Wareng high schools with the overall team’s Milo trophy at stake during this year’s National Finals of the Primary Schools’ Ball Games and Gymnastics.

More than 300 officials were trained today to officiate in the games which include gymnastics, soccer, volleyball, handball and netball for both girls and boys as the Ministry of Education confirmed on Tuesday that the championship would last for four days, one more than the initial number of days.

Nestlé Kenya through its MILO brand has renewed its sponsorship of Sh5million for the 8th consecutive year, with Head of Nestlé East Africa and Managing Director of Nestlé Kenya, Ciru Miring’u saying they remain committed in supporting the nurturing of young talent.

“We believe that the teams which qualified from their regions merited their progress so we expect that there will be immense talent on display in Eldoret. Over the years the competition has been very stiff and obviously this year can be no exception,” said Ms. Ciru Miring’u, the Head of Nestlé East Africa and Managing Director of Nestlé Kenya.

In Pool A, defending champions Nzoia will meet Metropolitan region in the opening match reminiscence of the 2014 finals when Nzoia beat Metropolitan by two goals to one in Machakos.
Coast region will meet with Highlands in Pool B opener of the boys’ football shortly after the first match.

Uasin Gishu County governor, Hon. Jackson Mandago is expected to launch the competition on Wednesday at 8.30am with the games scheduled to end on Saturday, 16.
