National Volleyball League kicks off Weekend

The Kenya Volleyball Federation(KVF) first phase of the national league kicks off this weekend with over 48 clubs for both men and women, second vice-chairman Kipkemei Sirma has said.

Speaking to Citizen in Nakuru, Sirma added the event kicks off at Modine, Malaba ahead of Teso North MP,Arthur Odera Cup tournament.

Sirma said plans to host the Africa Club Championships in Kenya have been shelved saying it is due to little resources they have and plans to ensure youth programmes that would lift the sport is now the federations top priority.

”We are now concentrating on agressive youth programmes that will see the spot go places thus the money planned to host the women  club championship has now been shifted to Tunisia and the money to be used for youth programmes to develop the sport,” said Sirma.

The second vice-chairman predicted booming times for the sport when the youth programme kicks off.

He said last year’s men league winners in both men and women will represent the country in Egypt and Tunisia respectively.

General Service Unit, Kenya Prisons and Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Pipeline, Kenya Prisons and Kenya Commercial won and finished runner-ups in the men and women leagues.
