New coach Mulukurwa wants Nzoia to challenge Gor

Newly appointed Nzoia Sugar head coach Sylvester Mulukurwa has made the ambitious pledge to deliver silverware at the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side.

Mulukurwa, who took over from Collins Omondi on Thursday after agreeing to a three-year deal, is keen to end Gor Mahia FC’s dominance in the league as well as outshine regional rivals AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz.

It would seem a long shot for the side that has barely ever been considered a title contender in the recent and whose best season since earning back to the top-flight has been a ninth-place finish in 2017.

“I want this team to return to its glory days in the 1990s and early 2000s when we dominated football in the country and thrashed AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia with ease. We have to be a serious team and not just participants in the league,

“My first assignment is to make this team get good results on the pitch, win domestic titles and become a football household name in the country. We can thereafter challenge for the league title. It is possible,” said Mulukurwa.
Mulukurwa has hit the road running and is scouting for young talented players from Western Region to fuel his ambitious plan.

Nzoia last participated in CAF Champions League in 2003 when they were eliminated in the first round by Egyptian giants Zamalek.
