New recruit Thiongo hails Leopards, determined to fight for his place

AFC Leopards midfielder Peter Thiong’o has hailed his side’s thrilling fightback from a goal down to silence Tusker FC 2-1 in an FKF Premier League clash played at Kasarani over the weekend.

The former Kakamega Homeboyz man at the same time submits that Ingwe are ripe and focused on attaining their primary mission of finishing top of league at the end of the 2020-2021 season.

“We are on form and up to the task as far as I’m concerned. We have a target and that is why we are keen to be fit so as to attain it. The target is definitely to lift the league title,” Thiong’o said.

Thiong’o has also vowed to work hard to earn a first choice slot when he recovers from a thigh injury which will put him out for two weeks.

The box to-box midfielder will have to tussle it out for the no 8 position together with Marvin Nabwire, Collins Sichenje and Said Tsuma in a congested looking midfield.

“I will just have to be strong  and psyche myself because I understand and I’m aware that the role has stiff competition.

The coach prefers me to play in that role because he is confident that I can attack, do midfield and even defend,”Thiong’o said, adding that,“ We have many players in that position like Marvin, Sichenje and “Kante” (Said Tsuma).

Thiong’o was officially unveiled Ingwe player early November after his contract with Kakamega Hombeoyz expired to earn him opportunity to play for a club he has supported since his childhood.

The 12- time champions travel to Bidco United FC this weekend.
