Newcomers enhanced KETISA says event chair

The Kenya Technical Institutes Sports Association (KETISA) national chairperson Joyce Nyanjom paid tribute to newcomers for raising the level of competition at the event that drew 23 institutions.

Kitale, Kabete, Sigalagala, Nyeri, Kenya coast (formerly Mombasa TTI), North Eastern and Meru polytechnics made their first appearances in Meru but failed to stop the Eldoret National Polytechnic from retaining the title.

“This is a good gesture and up to standard sports event. It is a sure way of nurturing the new young talents,” Nyanjom told Citizen Digital.

Defending champions Eldoret National Polytechnic led the KETISA standings after garnering an overall 23 points and were followed by Kenya Technical Trainers College and Kitale National Polytechnic.

In the women’s volleyball, National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) from Nairobi topped the table with NYS coming second as Eldoret Polytechnic took the men’s title and North Eastern National Polytechnic (Nenap) finished runners-up.

NITA lifted men’s football tittle after winning 3-2 against newbies Meru National polytechnic in a heated finals.

The match was marred by a bizarre five-minute stoppage time as NITA fans stormed the pitch in celebration after their team opened the scoring.

Sigalagala took the netball trophy with Eldoret national polytechnic making it to the second position.

The event’s chief guest Josphine Mbaya stressed the need to enable “children of Kenya” to travel and experience the diversified rich country by embracing sports tourism.
