Ng’eno, Meringor retain Chemususu Half Marathon titles

Bernard Ng’eno and Delvine Meringor successfully defended their Chemususu Dam Half Marathon titles, winning their respective races in the 6th edition of the competition on Saturday at Eldama Ravine in Baringo County.

Nge’no, the Instabul Half Marathon champion, crossed the finish line in 64.58 ahead of Leonard Lagat (65.15) and Samuel Kiplimo (65:25) who settled for second and third respectively.

“The race was great and I can say the win was due to proper training I did. Coming to this race I had no other intention apart from winning the title which I have managed” Ng’eno said.

In the women’s race Meringor clocked 75:02 to beat former Boston Marathon champion Sharon Cherop (75:33) and Lucy Cheruiyot (75:40).

Meringor, who trains in Kaptagat, expressed her happiness after clinching the women title.

“It was not easy winning the marathon, but I thank God I emerged the winner. The whether challenged me abit because I am used to hot temperatures.”

The winnerd were awarded ksh. 250,000, the first runners up went home with ksh. 150’000 while the sec. nd runners up pocketed ksh, 100,000.

The marathon was graced by Baringo County Governor Stanley Kiptis alongside other leaders.

Funds raised from the event will be channeled towards conserving water catchment areas in Ravine and its environs.
