Nicholas Bett, Rudisha give Kenya gold in World Championships

Nicholas Bett gave Kenya her first ever gold medal in the 400m hurdle at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon.

Bett held off his challengers in what had been tipped to be a tight race to finish in a world-leading time of 47.79 seconds.

Russia’s Denis Kudryavtsev claimed a silver medal having qualified fastest at the Bird’s Nest Stadium, while Jeffrey Gibson of the Bahamas picked up bronze – both setting new national records.

In 800 metres, David Rudisha announced his return to form with a top class finish beating Bosnian Amel Tuka to clinch gold in 1:45.84.

Poland’s Adam Kszczot came second with 1:46.08 while Tuka won bronze in 1:46.30.

In the Women’s 1500m, Genzebe Dibaba took control with 500m to go to clinch gold, beating Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon to second place in 4.08.96.

Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands took bronze in 4.09.34.
