No known return date for Omalla to Gor squad

Striker Benson Omalla will have to wait longer before featuring for Gor Mahia FC following his loan stint at Swedish Division One club Linkoping City.

Gor head coach Manuel Vaz Pinto says Omalla’s International Transfer Certificate (ITC) is still with the Swedish side hence the player remains ineligible to feature for his parent club.

“The ITC is still in Sweden and so he cannot play here. He has to wait for full clearance from Sweden. Remember International transfers have written rules,” Vaz Pinto said.

Omalla joined the Swedish side in May on a six-month loan from Gor but ended up terminating his contract after just two months on claims he was being forced to play out of position and limited play time.

The striker has been included in the Kenyan under-23 team to the CECAFA slated for next month in Ethiopia but Vaz Pinto insists he has no timeline on when he could feature for Gor again.

“I don’t know whether he will join in the next window. I don’t even know when the next window opens since this C0VID-19 pandemic keeps interrupting sports. I don’t know why journalists keep asking me about this player,” he added.

Omalla had a brief stint with Gor as a schoolboy after he was signed from Western Stima but the arrival of South Sudanese striker Tito Okello and Burundian international Jules Ulimwengu saw him fall down the pecking order.

He featured for Gor in International matches last season, most notably against APR of Rwanda at the CAF Champions League.
