No KPL midweek action in elections upshot

Round 21 of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) matches that was set for Tuesday kick-off has been postponed due to the political state in the country, following the August 8 general elections.

The announcement by the KPL Limited comes a week after postponement of the round 20 fixtures, to allow football stakeholders to participate in the polls.

An official statement released by KPL C.E.O Jack Oguda, explains most clubs have not been able to reassemble for training, hence the move to push forward the matches.

“This decision has been made in light of the political situation of the country at the moment. It has been difficult for players and technical staff to report back to their clubs for the purpose of meaningful training and preparation to honor the matches,” read Oguda’s statement.

He however gave an assurance that matches will continue as planned in the coming weekends. The new dates according to the KPL C.E.O will be communicated by close of business Monday 14.

“Round 20 matches which had been rescheduled to the weekend of 19-20 August will however go on as planned. We urge clubs to prepare well as the situation continues to be monitored,” advised Oguda.

A total of nine matches affecting all clubs in the topflight are affected, eight of which were slated for Wednesday.
