No respite for Malkia Strikers in Japan

The national women’s volleyball team Malkia Strikers were handed another defeat on Wednesday as they went down 3-0 (25-20,25-17 and 25-14) to Brazil in the ongoing FIVB Women World Cup in Hamamatsu.

It was the fourth straight sets loss the Kenyans have suffered at the global showpiece following similar blowout defeats to USA, Netherlands and champions Serbia at the Japanese city.

Their latest setback however featured an improved performance from the Paul Bitok-coach side who made the South Americans work to earn their victory especially in the first set.

Despite a good start in the third set, Malkia Strikers lost ground to hand the Brazilians their third win in the tournament to climb fifth in the 12-team log with eight points as Kenya remain bottom of the log.

Skipper Mercy Moim impressed in the match as she emerged with nine scores only behind Brazilian duo of Mara Ferreira (14) and Armanda Francisco (12).

Kenya ‘s search for elusive win in the tourney will continue tomorrow when they take on another South American side-Argentina.

Elsewhere, African champions Cameroon who are also struggling in the tournament were similarly handed a straight-sets hammering by hosts Japan.
