NOC-K rolls out final batch of Olympics tickets

The National Olympics Committee (NOC-K) through Kingdom Sports Group on Tuesday rolled out the final batch of tickets for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, less than five months to the kick-off.

In a joint press conference by acting NOC-K secretary general Francis Mutuku and Kingdom Sports, the official NOC-K ticketing partner, the company through the Kenya representative Daniel Belington launched the Games’ last wave of stand-alone tickets that will go on sale on March 16.

According to Belington, Kenyans will be able to purchase the tickets as well packages for the Games primed for July 24 to August 9 by visiting the Australia-based company website www.kingdomsg.com . Already, over 100 fans have acquired tickets to watch their stars in action at the Summer Games.

“For the stand-alone tickets, you do not have to buy any additional services but are limited in terms of the amounts you can purchase; a maximum of twenty tickets can be purchased where it’s four-event tickets per session for a maximum of five sessions,” he revealed.

At the same time, the company read the riot act to the scammers pretending to be offering tickets and other services for the fans who are planning to travel to Tokyo warning that they have put measures to prevent such incidences.

Early last year, the host nation Japan passed a law prohibiting ticket scalping, with a 1 million yen (Ksh 950,000) fine or a one-year jail term or both for those found guilty.

“We are aware of people claiming to be official ticket sellers for the event but I would like to get this out clearly that our company (Kingdom Sports) is the official partner distributing these tickets in Kenya and nobody else,” he added.

Despite the coronavirus outbreak , the company is optimistic the Games will go on as planned adding that the tickets purchase exercise has not been affected.

“We have not experienced any negative impacts regarding our business despite the fears of the deadly virus and Kenyans should not be worried when purchasing the tickets,” said Belington.

Meanwhile, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Tuesday kicked off a crucial executive board meeting to discuss the threat of the virus to the Summer Games, with President Thomas Bach pledging success.
