NOCK issues kits ahead of African Games

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) issued the first batch of uniforms to African Games bound teams on Sunday as the Games draw closer.

With the Games set to kick off on August 19-31 in four Moroccan Cities,  Kenyan teams will start departing from Monday.

In an event held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani all the federations apart from athletics, Canoing and Rowing received their kits including:ceremonial track suits, shoes and caps.

According to NOCK acting Secretary general Francis Mutuku, athletics team will be handed their kits later due to their high number while the Camping and Rowing federations yet to forward their teams.

“Today we have issued uniforms to teams as some of them depart beginning tomorrow. This time round we handed over the uniforms in open because we want to be transparent and fair to each and every federation,” said Mutuku.

Mutuku added that the teams will also receive their training gear in due course.

Kenya will be sending a contingent of 290 sportsmen across 22 disciplines and the Games Chief Executive Officer Charles Nyaberi disclosed that the government is fully sponsoring the teams.

“Everything has gone according to plan as teams have been in camp for the past two weeks with the government catering for everything. This has been possible through the National Sports Fund,” said Nyaberi.

National Women volleyball team Malkia Strikers are among the teams scheduled to travel in Tuesday morning with head coach Paul Bitok exuding confidence ahead of title defence.

“I have trained the team for the last week and the morale in the squad is very high. We will do anything to defend out title in Morocco,” said Bitok.

This year’s Games will be held in capital Rabat alongside Casablanca,  El Jadida and Khemisset cities.
