NOCK official Stephen Soi freed on bail over Rio fiasco

The National Olympics Committee-Kenya (Nock) Chef-de-Mission, Stephen arap Soi, has finally appeared in court over the Rio fiasco.

Soi who had never appeared in court since the Rio saga, told the court through his advocate that he had been admitted in hospital and was only released three days to the day he appeared.

Soi who appeared before a Nairobi Milimani court senior resident magistrate Hellen Onkwani was released on a Ksh 200000 cash bail with conditions that he should keep off NOCK offices, deposit his passport with court, report to the police station two days every week and not leave the country without the knowledge of the court.

Other NOCK officials who have since appeared before court and are being investigated further, include treasurer, Fridah Bilha Mulwale Shiroya, first vice-chairman, Pius Ochieng and secretary general, Francis K Paul who are facing accusations related to the Rio 2016 fiasco.

The three were earlier released on similar terms and conditions as Soi -pending completion of investigation into the matter which was meant to take 21 days before appropriate charges can be preferred against the four.

They are all expected back in court in the 19th September 2016 to access the progress on investigation.
