Nock officials risk fresh arrests over witness intimidation

Team Kenya Chef-de-Mission for Rio 2016 Olympics Stephen arap Soi together with co-accused National Olympics Committee of Kenya officials FK Paul and Pius Ochieng risk being arrested after charges of unwarranted interference were preferred against them.

The prosecution made an application before court to have the three compelled to appear at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) headquarters over allegations of witness intimidation.

In the application, the prosecution claimed a previous summon for the three by the DCI had been in vain with Chief Prosecutor in the matter, Duncan Ondimu, telling the court that Nock officials led by the accused persons sat in a meeting and resorted to firing some of the witnesses in the case.

Principal Magistrate Charity Oluoch however directed the prosecution to raise the witness interference claims before the trial court when the case is next mentioned.

The magistrate also advised the prosecution that if the claims are confirmed, they can have the accused persons rearrested and charged for witness interference.

The case will be mentioned on December 15 to determine whereabouts of Ochieng who was a no-show in court on the claims he felt unwell.
