Nock officials to return to the dock on Friday

Three National Olympics Committee-Kenya (Nock) officials charged over the Rio 2016 Olympics fiasco will return to the dock on Friday for the mention of their case with the hearing set for December 6.

Nairobi’s Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo made the deferral after lead prosecutor Duncan Ondimu was involved in another high profile case on Monday when the matter was set to be mentioned.

Team Kenya Chef-de-Mission, Stephen arap Soi, Nock vice-president, Pius Ochieng and Secretary General, Francis Kinyili Paul presented themselves in courtroom number nine ready for the proceedings.

Soi who was considered the chief architect of the Rio Fiasco is facing five charges in relation to stealing USD256, 000 (Ksh 25,907,705.82) from Government, National Olympics Committee-Kenya (Nock) and Athletics Kenya. Soi however, denied all charges against him.

Ochieng and Paul are accused of fraudulently acquiring Team Kenya kit from Nike.They all denied the charges and were freed on a Ksh 200,000 cash bail.

While the state dropped investigations against Nock Treasure Fridah  Shiroya and intends to use her as a witness against the three.

 

In the history of Summer Olympics Games, Team Kenya had the best performance at the Rio Olympics Games with 13 medals, six gold, six silver and a bronze.
