NOCK to rebrand national team kits

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) has revealed plans to unveil rebranded national team kits next year ahead of the Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan.

Speaking Friday at the body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), NOCK president Paul Tergat revealed that the new uniforms are part of the Committee’s rebranding.

The initiative between NOCK and global sportswear firm Nike will also be availed to the public for purchase for the first time.

“We had a very fruitful discussion with Nike in that beginning next year we will be having a new design of the national team uniforms. It will be a totally different outlook which is aligned towards our rebranding. Also, we are seeking to make the kit available for purchase once we unveil and the proceeds to come back to NOCK,” said Tergat.

At the same time, Tergat disclosed that the General Assembly earlier on passed the 2016/17 and 2018/19 accounts.

Tergat further revealed that NOCK is currently focused on the upcoming Summer Games as the new office seeks to oversee a successful event especially after the last edition of the Games held in 2016 in Rio, Brazil was marred with scandals.

“The 2020 Olympics is key to not only us but the country at large, we want to have an eventful outing that everyone will be proud of and that is why I am calling for transparency among all the federations,” said Tergat.

In line with the preparations for Tokyo Olympics, NOCK has also approved a budget of sh600m with sh250m set to cater for the preparations and qualifications of teams to the global showpiece.

With Nike being the sole sponsor of NOCK, Tergat has urged corporates to come on board and boost the Olympic body.

“Any sponsor who may want to partner with us are welcome and we can always engage because it is in the best interests of the athlete that we are here,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tergat also confirmed that team Kenya will camp at Kurume City prior to the Olympic Games
