Nock top official resigns as Kenya faces IOC sanctions

Barely a day after the International Olympic Committee IOC’s stern letter to The National Olympic Comiittee of Kenya, the heat on Noc-Kenya officials is becoming unbearable.  The second deputy president Pius Ocheing resigned from his position on Friday morning.

Ochieng also asked his collegues at the Executive Committee to tender in their resignations and urged the Kenya Taekwondo Federation to withdraw their case in court in attempt to escape the International Olympics Committee (IOC) wrath next month.

IOC is scheduled to hold a meeting on July 9 and 10 to discuss the fate of the country after not following the 2016 road map agreed upon.

“As a former sportsman who has competed at the highest level in the Olympics and major games, I will be failing fellow sportsmen and sportswomen, by not coming out openly to disassociate myself with the actions that my colleagues at NOCK have put Kenya at loggerheads with the IOC.

“Today, (Friday) I am offloading the burden of being used as part of the selfish interests being spearheaded by some officials within NOCK.

“I know, Kenyans and the World are angry for what the Olympic body has gone through and personally my conscience cannot allow me to sabotage the running of sports in Kenya and that is why I have resigned as an official,” said Ochieng.

MrOchieng added that he will continue his role as the chairman of the Kenya Weightlifting Federation.

He served Nock for one term and was not going to defend his position during this year’s elections.

During his tunure at Nock he was accused of pinching Team Kenya kit for the Rio 2016 Olympics Games.
