Nondescript’s Were plotting to slay Mwamba in Kenya Cup clash

Nondescript RFC team manager Kevin Were believes his team did their homework well against Menengai Oilers to win 28-8 in their third match of the Kenya Cup played last weekend at the Impala Club.

The win by Nondies came in the wake of wins against  holders Menengai Cream Homeboyz (20-14)in the season opener,  and a famous 27-22 victory over KCB which ended the latter’s 20-month unbeaten run .

Nondescript next assignment is an away match against Mwamba RFC, and Were is oozing with confidence his charges will sustain the early season momentum.

“We’re going to prepare for our game against Mwamba just like any other games we have had this season, so there won’t be a lot of changes. When you are winning against big teams you create an impression in your team that something special is happening. That special thing should be seen further in our subsequent matches,” told the coach.

The Kevin Wambua charges lost 26-29 against Kenya Harlequin in the season opener followed by a 22-18 loss to Menengai Cream Homeboys, latest loss being  a 33-13 humiliation to defending champions KCB last weekend.

Reflecting of the early season trend, Were has already set season target which he notes has been embraced by his team judging by their exploits thus far.

“Our aim is to reach the Kenya cup playoffs, so we have to take each game seriously to ensure we keep our target realistic. This has to be seen in our clash against Mwamba,” added Were.

However, the coach has warned that it will not be an automatic win against Mwamba, who are welcoming back their decorated winger Collins Injera and Eliakim Kichoi from the national duty.

A key area that Were wants his charges to work on is try conversions, drawing from their game against KCB where they converted one out of five tries.

“In our coming matches we should work on how to have accurate conversions and avoid sin bins which has left us with fewer players in the recent matches.” pointed out Were.

Nondies are second in the Kenya cup standings with 14 points one below current leaders Kabras Sugar, while Mwamba are 11th with only three.
