Nondies eyeing first win in Mombasa showdown

Nondescripts RFC head coach Christian Josiah is adamant has his charges will qualify for this season’s Kenya Cup playoffs as he prepares them for Saturday’s clash against Mombasa RFC.

Nondies have lost both of their opening fixtures but will have the chance to crank to gear and steer their season back on course when they host the bottom table side at the Jamhuri Park.

Mombasa have endured a harsh start to life in the top flight having earned promotion last term and have already shipped 70 points and defeat at the hands of Nondies will only serve to compound their woes.

“We have put in a lot of hard work and learnt from our previous games and I am optimistic if we stick to our systems and basics then we will prosper.

“We started on a bad note in our first two games and so far it has been trying out different player combinations since we have brought in new players for the new season. We can only use this as a stepping stone towards our success,” Josiah told Citizen Digital.

Nondies opened their season with an 8-0 defeat away at Blak Blad before losing 29-21 loss to Menengai Cream Homebozy.

During the off season Nondies brought on board Fidel Oloo, Moses Begi and Mark Ongayo from Blak Blad and the coach was in full praise of his new recruits.

“The new players have done well so far, instilling new life and young blood in the team and I believe they will take the club a new level that we can all be proud of.”

Nondies are currently placed 9th on the 12-team log having failed to pick crucial points from their first two matches.

“In our first two games we played on an Individual play rather than team play and our systems, but towards the Homebozy game we improved and we can only hope the momentum is sustained,” he underscored.

The former Nondies player-turned-coach acknowledged they face an uphill task in their quest to earn a playoffs spot at the expense of the Kenya Cup big boys but backed his charges to put up a fight.

“The big take away for our team is hard work, sticking to the basics and keeping it simple in our style of play which will be definitely our key to success towards our playoff qualification dream.

“We have recruited well and we have a bigger number this season and our main goal as I have said is to qualify for that playoff position and probably change the fortunes of our great team.”
