Nondies rocked amidst coach resignation claims and KRU’s sledge hammer act

Nondies RFC on Wednesday said that they will appeal against the decision by the Kenya Rugby Union docking them 10 points for allegedly fielding an ineligible player in their last six matches,  even as speculation heightened that their back-line coach Willis ‘Foxy’ Oja has reigned.

Nondies have so far won two of their matches but suffered cruel fate when they were deducted 10 points after their weekend game against Kabras Sugar where they fielded two of their new players in Fidel Oloo and Levy Ochieng.

Following the points deduction, the team now sits at position 11 in the 12- team log.

At the same time, club boss Auka Gecheo has dismissed reports that the team’s backline coach, Oja, has resigned, insisting the technical bench is intact.

Speculation is rife within the club’s quarters that the coach has thrown in the towel owing to the poor run. Two senior players within the team’s rank who did not want to be named for fear of reprisals confirmed the development.

However, when reached for comment, club chairman, Auka Gecheo, scoffed at the reports saying the back-line coach is staying put.

No one in the technical bench has left. We are still intact.”

In a separate interview with Citizen Digital, team manager Kevin Were said: “I think its unfortunate that happened (deduction of points) but I can’t comment more on this.”

The Kenya Rugby Union has not specified who exactly the ineligible players are, but the registration of the new faces in the team is said to be the main bone of contention.

However, Citizen Digital has learned that the ineligible players might be Fidel Oloo and Levy Ochieng who were signed from second placed Kabras Sugar.

Were, however, is tight-lipped on the matter. He said:“If it’s about the new players, then I must point out that we followed the right channels to recruit. We  had no hidden agenda so the current conundrum is a plan to tarnish the great name of our team.”

Moses Begi, Mark Ogayo and Franz Obuda are the other new players to have been signed by the wounded Kenya Cup side from Blak Blad in January.

Nondies next assignment is against struggling  Kisii RFC at the Jamhuri Showground before they travel across town to face KCB at the Ruaraka grounds a week later.
