Nsimbe Shield delight as Tusker blow Butterfly away

Tusker FC Head Coach George ‘Best’ Nsimbe showered his charges in praise as they eased through to the quarters of the GOtv Shield title with an emphatic 4-1 win over Butterfly FC on Saturday.

Tusker’s all round display at the Kinoru Stadium left Nsimbe overly delighted as they stayed on course to retaining the title they won last year.

David Mwangi, Michael Khamati, Brian Osumba and Paul Odhiambo were on target for the Brewers with Zonly Ange grabbing the consolation goal from the spot.

“For the first time the boys played good football. Not that we won but game was good. Possession fantastic! Shot on goal, wonderful! And they played as a team,” Nsimbe who is seeking his first piece of silverware at Tusker said post-match.

There was hardly any doubt to whom the tie tilted in favour of and the first half scoreline told a similar tale with Mwangi, Khamati and Odhiambo all scoring past their Ruiru-based opponents inside the opening 45.

It read 3-1 at the break with Ange making it less embarrassing for the lower division side and his goalkeeper Duncan Makaya doing a similar job with a tremendous shift between the sticks.

Odhiambo put the tie well beyond reach 15 minutes into the second half with a goal of his own.

In conceding defeat, Butterfly coach Shem Ondiek rued his side’s inexperience and a shambolic first half but credited his charges for a ‘composed’ second half display.

“The game was nice even though we played against a more experienced team. My boys are below 25 years and the Tusker has more experienced players and in fact most of them are regulars in the national team,” Shem told Citizen Digital.

The tactician added he would fancy friendly matches with top teams and especially Kenyan Premier League (KPL) opponents in order to enhance their exposure.
