NSL to kick off on Jamhuri Day December 12

NSL to kick off on Jamhuri Day December 12

The chairman of the National Super League governing council Johnstone Sakwa has said that the league will not commence on 5 December 2020 as earlier planned but on December 12 instead.

At the NSL meeting held at FKF headquarters, Kandanda House, Nairobi, an array of topics were discussed including a review of the last season.  However, the major burning issue raised by the club’s representatives in attendance was the date of the league resumption.

After much deliberations, the league was postponed to kick off on December 12, 2020, to allow the clubs to handle necessary logistics that will come in handy as they prepare for the league kick-off.

The club representatives are also content with the efforts put in place by the Federation to help curb the Covid- 19 pandemic in football.

“We have discussed about the possibility of starting the league, it was anticipated we can start this coming weekend but after deliberations we are planning to start on 12th December. We are ready for the league despite all the challenges of Covid-19 and the government protocols. We are determined to give value to this league and starting it,” he explained.

“As you are all aware many companies have been struggling and of course that has affected our clubs and we have been discussing how we can make this league simple. I cannot say we are 100% ready as far as support is required but in terms of the value of the league , yes we are prepared,” noted Sakwa.

Possibilities of finding new sponsors for the league was also discussed with a special request to the government to chip in especially on the cost of taking the Covid-19 tests.

Last week the government through the Ministry of Sports issued guidelines on the return protocols of contact-sports, with minimum risks, but which still barred the return of second tier action but allowed the resumption of the FKF-PL.

Mwatate United FC ,Soy United FC and Silibiwet Leons FC will be making their debut in the NSL this season after earning promotion from the third tier.
