Nson backs Thunder to stop GRA in friendly

Former Kenyan Premier League basketball champions Thunder are keen to silence Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in their Tuesday night match, after the visiting sides (men and women) overcame local teams in the weekend fixtures.

Thunder will entertain GRA at 7:30 pm  EAT (+3 GMT) at the Shauri Moyo courts, in one of  their remaining friendlies, in their one-week Nairobi tour.

GRA sunk Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS) 70- 65  over the weekend, before overcoming Far East Basketball Association (FEBA) 62-56.

Thunder, are however buoyed by  their weekend win over Trailblazers 69-52 in their Premier League match held at the USIU grounds, as pointed out by head coach Abel Nson.

“This is a very important game for us and we are privileged to be playing our first International Friendly to a Zone 5 FIBA team. We will use this game as a yard stick of to test what we can offer against a team of this calibre.They are a good team; their players have the height and physique so we expect a tough game from them,” said the coach.

Nson, who doubles up as the head coach of the Storms (girls team) expressed confidence they match the visitors by every standard, especially after thrashing Eagle Wings 45-26 in their Premier League over the weekend at the USIU grounds.

Besides the frindlies, a one-week sports clinic is part of the teams visit, with upcoming basket ball players expected to benefit from the initiative, including a camp at the DIWOPA program in Kayole.

Sports Connect Africa in partnership with Kenya Basketball Federation alongside Hockey Farm have organised the tour, with an aim of improving co-operation between the Ghana and Kenya, in the basketball arena.

USIU, Ulinzi, Storms, Equity Bank and Strathmore are some of the clubs expected to play the Ghanaians.
