Ntugi Girls eye slot in national basketball games

Ntugi Girls will be hoping to go a step further after having their basketball progression twice cut short at the regional level.

The team which has won all five of the last Buuri District basketball championships have been a permanent fixture in Meru County Games but have only twice before advanced to the Eastern Region; in 2013 and 2017.

This year, they have won three of their four opening fixtures in the region and the Games Department head Mwenda Lumange believes they can go on and earn qualification for the National Games.

“The school principal Ithinji Mbaabu has been so supportive of the team especially by sponsoring it for tournaments which has given good exposure and motivation to the team,” Mwenda told Citizen Digital.

Their impressive 59-01, 48-10 and 30-6 wins over Ntunene, Gundua and Maua have enhanced their status as one of the few Day schools in Meru excelling in the sport.
