Nzoia, Leopards share spoils at Mumias Sports Complex

Nzoia Sugar FC registered a 2-2 draw with AFC Leopards, in the 11th round of the Kenyan Premier League held at Mumias Sports Complex  on Saturday.

Thomas Wainaina opened the scoring in the sixth minute for the hosts, after receiving a beautiful lofted pass from Masha Geatan.

AFC Leopards however responded after conceding the goal, with several attacking attempts which finally bore fruit in the 33rd minute when Bonface Mukhekhe took advantage of a poor cleared pass to hit the back of the net.

Mukhekhe hit the crossbar again two minutes later, but a counter from Nzoia on the stroke of halftime caught the Leopards defence napping, and Masha Geitan provided a lovely pass  to Abraham Kipkogei who drove the ball past Ezekiel Owade in Leopards goal to give the hosts the lead at halftime.

AFC Leopards started the second half on a high note, and they were finally gifted in the 54th minute when Austine Otieno capitalized on a defensive error from Nzoia to send the ball past Mangala.

AFC Leopards could have got the lead on the 59th minute, when Austine Ochieng dribbled past the defenders but his shot was saved by Mangala.

Nzoia head coach introduced his top scorer Collins Wakhungu in the 60th minute in a bid to  improve his team’s attack, as scorer Wainaina was rested, with Peter Gin also coming in a few minutes later for Kevin Juma.

The last quater of the match witnessed a heavy downpour, as the two teams settled for shared spoils.
