Nzoia say goal-machine Rupia going nowhere

Nzoia Sugar have warned interested suitors seeking the signature of striker Elvis Rupia they will do everything to keep their prized possession at the club.

Rupia has taken the 2018 campaign by storm, leading the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) goal-scoring charts with 11 goals in the opening half of the season.

That goal-blitz, which included a scintillating hatrick against Kakamega Homeboyz during their 3-1 win at the Sudi Stadium in March, has captivated the country’s top clubs and put Nzoia in a battle to hold on to their star man.

Assistant Coach Vincent Sifuma said the club will bat way any offers for the former Nakuru All Stars attacker, saying it would be especially unwise to sell a key player during the mid-season.

“We are aware that some clubs are interested in him although none has officially reached out to us for a deal. Ultimately it all depends on him but as for now he is focused on staying on with us and we’re happy to keep him,” the coming matches and has even promised to score more goals,” Sifuma said.

Sifuma admitted while they never doubted Rupia’s talent, his incredible run that almost translates to a goal every match has left the club in shock with the exit of last season’s first choice forwards likely to have contributed to his boom.

Lawrence Juma and Masita Masuta who combined for 13 goals last season were both sold during the off-season with the former signed by Gor Mahia FC while his partner switched allegiances to Ulinzi Stars FC.

It paved way for Rupia to take centre stage and the 22-year-old has wasted no time sezing the chance. And his coach Sifuma believes he can get better.

“He is in good form this season, but he has a lot of areas to improve on than just scoring goals.”
