Nzoia seek Oserian scalp to go top of NSL

National super League continues this weekend with nine matches on the card, with Nzoia United out to leap to the top of the standing over leaders Nakumatt FC when they face Oserian FC later Saturday.

The sugar millers and former two-time national champions are remain the only unbeaten side in the second tier with a record of 12 wins and five draws for 41 points, one shy of the retailers and will fancy their chances against the 11th placed side.

Oserian treasurer, Samwel Marete, has a different take on the odds backing his side who are also two-time top flight champions before going financially bust just like Nzoia, to inflict a first defeat on their opponents.

“The one weekend rest we have had due to the GOtv Shield has worked to our advantage. The boys have had adequate time to practice and I am a not aware of any injuries that might affect our home game.

“We are not underestimating Nzoia, it is the team we hold in high esteem, though, that does not mean we can’t fight them,” the official added.

Nakumatt are away to ninth-placed Bidco United in Thika, a venue the home side has turned into a fortress.

Shabana FC who saw their joy at climbing off the foot of the table short-lived after St. Joseph edged them 2-1 at their adopted Awendo Green Stadium midweek return to the same arena to welcome seventh placed KCB.

Third placed Zoo (37) hope to re-ignite their promotion chase when they visit Moyas who sit 14th (19) after failing to register victory in their last three to fend off fourth placed Kariobangi Sharks (33) who will travel to Kisumu to take on the unpredictable Palos FC (eighth/27).

Moyas coach Kisco Kariuki intends to use Tito Ogutu in place of Martin Wachira and substitute keeper Iddi Ibrahim for Evans Adachi with both ruled out injured.

Police FC who are in 12th (22) could haul themselves to the top ten if other results go their way with victory as they welcome struggling Modern Coast Rangers who are languishing in 16th (17).

The Technical Director; Charles Omondi underlined their push will be to clinch maximum points.

“Our recent problem has been scoring. We intend to pump more pressure on attacks, that’s why we have substituted our recent signing from AFC Leopards Dennis Nzomo with Sese.

“The friendly matches against Limuru FC and Forest Rangers that we won with 3-0 and 4-0 respectively have really been a boost to the boys weekend preparations,” Omondi reiterated.

Modern have hauled themselves from the relegation places to sit ten points above the drop zone that has Ligi Ndogo and Shabana tied at seven after a good recent run.
