Nzoia Sugar bolster squad with three signings

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Nzoia Sugar FC have roped in two strikers and a defender from rival clubs as head coach Collins Omondi continues to try turn the struggling team’s fortunes around.

The relegation-threatened side added the trio of Philip Muchuma, Vintex Odongo and Martin Nzamba to their roaster in an attempt to turn the tables following a string of poor performances in the topflight league.

Muchuma signed from 2009 KPL champions Sofapaka while Odongo joined the Sudi based club from struggling Wazito FC. Central defender Nzamba was turning out for the moribund Sony Sugar before his switch to Nzoia.

The Millers are in 15th place on the log with 11 points, having won only two matches, drawn five and lost twelve.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Tuesday, Nzoia gaffer Collins Omondi said the trio will help boost the front line adding that he is optimistic of escaping the KPL relegation axe.

“We are actually playing well, our display is amazing and we create more chances but converting them to goals has been our biggest problem.

I have the confidence in the three and bringing them on board is a good step towards realisation of our goals because we have seen them play well in their previous clubs,” Omondi noted.

Elsewhere, Mathare United have also bolstered their squad after acquiring the signature of defender Salim Swaleh Chacha from Bandari FC.

Chacha was unveiled on Monday after agreeing a year-long loan deal and immediately revealed that playing for Mathare United was a ‘dream come true.

“Mathare is a historical club in Kenya. Some of the best players in the country, past and present, have passed through here. So when the opportunity came up I could not say no,” the former Bandari right back said.

Third placed Tusker have sealed their fourth signing of the ongoing transfer window after confirming the arrival of striker Henry Meja.

The 18-year-old striker, who was the top scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2019 Cleophas Malala Super cup, completed his move to Ruaraka penning down a three-year deal.
