Nzoia Sugar cut Gor to size, rise to ninth

Nzoia Sugar moved up to ninth on the Football Kenya Federation standings after a famous 2-1 victory over defending champions Gor Mahia at Mumias Sports Complex on Saturday.

Samuel Onyango gifted the visiting Gor Mahia an early lead in the 25th minute before Gaitan Masha and Moses Mwale scored for Nzoia in the second half to fire the home side to within 15 points of league leaders Tusker FC who equally lost by the same margin to newbies Bidco United this afternoon.

Nzoia now have 17 points.

The contest gave little in the opening proceedings as each side missed open chances until the 25th minute when Samuel Onyango tapped into the net after a mix up with the Nzoia defenders, inside the six-yard box.

Gaitan Masha however restored parity for Nzoia in the 60th minute before Moses Mwale had the final say with a stoppage time winner.

The pace of the game increased with the bench power shouting instructions from all sides.

Coach Ibrahim Shikanda of Nzoia Sugar was elated with the win moreso after his boys utilized second half chances.

Shikanda thanked his striking force for a spirited fight in the last 10 minutes of the game, hopeful that his charges would give out a similar battling performance against Bandari next week.

“My boys played well, we fought hard, and I’m hoping we shall replicate the same against Bandari,” Shikanda said.

Gor Mahia tactician Vaz Pinto said that they’ll aim to bounce back next week against KCB.

“We played well but lost, I can attribute this to fatigue, we have played eight games back to back , I want to assure fans we are going to improve against KCB.”
