Nzoia United humiliate Shabana FC in NSL meet
Visitors Nzoia United took the advantage of Shabana’s weakness to extend the lead in the National Super League table in the weekend fixtures at the Awendo Green Stadium.
The Gusii-based Shabana faced a 3-1 humiliation in their fan base despite Team Manager, Andrew Kanuli, expressing optimism that the club would not face relegation.
Goals from Brian Otieno on the 17th minute, Masita Masuta 72nd and Bolton Omwenga 92nd earned Nzoia a successful second leg win against The Gusii former topflight champions, while Demonde Selenga scored a consoling goal through a penalty at the last minutes of the game.
Elsewhere, Ligi Ndogo won the second match of the league after beating St. Josephs FC Sunday afternoon. According to the team chairman, Chris Amimo, the win boosted the morale of the players and they believe that they will not be relegated come end of the season.
“There are many reasons why the team has not been performing well. First, the players never clicked, not because of bad coaching but lack of connection and after some time, the team lost confidence and in that case they could not perform,” said Amimo.
Amimo also believes that it is now time for the team to build a formidable force and do better in the remaining matches in National Super League.
On the other hand, Zoo Kericho continued to pile the pressure on Nakumatt FC for the second position in the NSL after a 2-0 victory against Modern Coast Rangers at the Kericho Green Stadium. Kipyegon Isaac and Danson Namasaka were on target for the hosts.
