Obiri, Manangoi crowned athletes of the year
World 1,500m champion Elijah Manangoi and World champion Hellen Obiri got befitting rewards after they were on Thursday evening crowned AK Athletes of the Year at a glamorous gala night at a city hotel.
Manangoi was picked as the Male Athlete of the Year, while Obiri toasted to the Female Athlete of the Year award.
The duo stood head and shoulders above their peers to bag the individual gongs – crowning what has been an impressive year.
Their victories is perhaps an icing on the cake on their burgeoning careers.
“I’m happy for this award even though Monaco was a disappointment, I feel appreciated and motivated to pursue better and bigger goals in next year’s Commonwealth Games…,”Mangangoi said after picking his award.
