Obonyo leads KPA rout of KU Oryx

Donnasama Obonyo scored a game-high 18 points to lead the KPA to a 78-34 rout of KU Oryx during Sunday’s Kenya Basketball Federation clash at the Nyayo Gymnasium.

Hilda Indasi poured four three-pointers in an explosive opening quarter by KPA who raced 20-9 up with Obonyo inspiring them to a dominant 24-3 victory in the second quarter.

Spirited fights from Oryx’s Christine Mwangi and Diana Opiyo could not prevent the Varsity side from going down 14-8 and 20-14 in the third and fourth quarters.

Victory sealed KPA’s second win for the weekend after they blew away Zetech University 66-23 on Saturday.

“It is quite good to bag another win, my players have done quite a good job winning the weekend doubles in two week’s successively which is not that easy, but they managed to give a nice show grasping impressive results,” KPA coach Mike Opel said.

The tactician extolled Dockers shooting guard, Hilda Indasi who has had a fair share of the season slotting a lot of 3-pointers, backing her side to garner more points.

“Hilda is a talented player who is extremely good in long shots, and her presence has been of a great lift to the team. She is one of our best shooting guard;

On the other hand, Varsity side tactician Gitau Waringo concieved the rout alluding that he was clashing one of the solid sides in the league.

Gitau now goals on minimizing the slips in order to come up resilient in subsequent ties.
