Obtaining land title for Gor’s new stadium will be a milestone -Rachier

Outgoing Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has revealed more details on the plans to construct the club’s stadium.

Rachier, who has been at the helm of Gor leadership for the past 11 years, is set to finally bow out as he will not be vying for the position come December 2019. When the club holds its elections.

Gor Mahia is one of the oldest clubs in Kenyan football history and despite enjoying massive support from across the country; the club is yet to have it’s won stadium. This has prompted football stakeholders to question the leadership of the club with fingers poised to the management for failing to rise on occasion and build a stadium for the club.

Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital on Friday, Rachier affirmed that plans to acquire the title deed of the land “allocated to the club by former president Daniel Moi” are under way and soon they will roll out plans to construct the stadium as well as an academy for the club.

“We are in the process of perfecting the title deed in respect to the piece of land measuring approximately 10 acres that was allocated to us by the retired president Daniel Moi.”

“Once we have the title deed, we intend to construct a modern stadium and academy for the club.”

On financing of the project, the K’Ogalo chairman revealed that they have approached an outside agency to help in building the stadium.

“We have approached the Turkish Airlines through the Turkish embassy in Nairobi to partner with us in the construction of the stadium,” he said.

Rachier adds that details of the partnership will be made public once an agreement has been reached on the discussions they are holding.

Having in mind that Rachier has less than six months in office; the project will prove difficult to be accomplished in his tenure.

“Obtaining this title will be a big milestone and the conclusion of the agreement for the partnership will be important so that my successor will be able to carry out the agreement for the project.”

“My aim is to have a ground breaking ceremony where we shall announce that the construction of the stadium will be beginning,” added the seasoned lawyer.

On why Gor Mahia has taken long to acquire the title document for the land allocated to them, Rachier blamed confusion of the land allotted and settlement of the squatters who have build tall buildings around the location stalled the process.

“There has been a difficulty in identifying the exact land that was allocated to us as it appeared there were two allocations, we pursued the land in Embakasi and even though the title deed existed, people had put up high rising buildings,”

Gor Mahia together with AFC Leopards received another allocation and it is upon the discovery of this that both clubs are in the race to acquire the title and make plans stadium construction.

Rachier said that despite the delays, he was optimistic that by the end of this year they would have obtained the title documents.
