Ochieng’s winner lifts Chemelil Sugar to sixth

Victor Ochieng powered Chemelil Sugar to sixth in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) log when he produced the winner in their 1-0 victory over Bandari FC at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Ochieng sealed the three points in the 31st minute to lift his side above Posta Rangers, AFC Leopards, Muhoroni Youth and Kakamega Homeboyz in the log with 30 points with their opponents remaining 12th three adrift in a tight mid table.

The Dockers had a bad start when their star, Shaban Kenga, left the field injured with Hassan Abdallah coming on to take his place.

They should have gone ahead in the 13th through former Gor Mahia striker and Golden Boot winner, Dan Sserunkuma, but the Ugandan missed the target.

His miss was punished by Ochieng who beat Wilson Obungu for the opener to leave the Dockers trailing 1-0 at half time as the sugar millers dominated proceedings.

Both sides rang changes in the final half with Victor Majid coming on for Hilary Echesa as Jefari Owiti rested Samwel Ouma in 55th for Chemelil.

Sserenkuma was sacrificed three minutes later with Darius Myambo coming on as Kibiru Sitenge went out for Omar Boraafya on the Bandari side.

Another former Gor striker, Jared Obwoge, came off for the last substitution for the winners with Erastus Mwaniki taking his place as both teams sought a breakthrough but despite four minutes added on at the end of the 90, the score remained 1-0 to Chemelil.
