AFC Leopards rallied to save themselves from a potentially humiliating defeat as they defeated third-tier side Mwatate FC 2-1 in Kasarani to reach the FKF Shield quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Manase Wanyonyi’s 10th minute strike gave Mwatate a shock lead and the visitors held their advantage into the break but the tie was back on level terms two minutes into the second half thanks to Eugene Mukangula’s equalizer.

It was the midfielder’s first goal for Leopards since his mid-season transfer and it set the stage for Ezekiel Odera to score the winner as the holders progressed to the last 8 where they will play either Kenya Police or Leysa FC who meet in the other last 16 clash.
