Odero on target as Posta Rangers pick first win of the season

Posta Rangers registered their first win in the Football Kenya Premier League after defeating home team Vihiga United 1-0 at Mumias Sports Complex on Sunday.

The lone goal was scored in the 69th minute by William Sammy Odero and guaranteed them three crucial points after registering six consecutive draws in their last six games.

“It’s a good motivation for me, giving my team the first win of the season especially coming from an injury and missing the last three games,” Odero said after his match-winner.

On his part, Rangers tactician Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo who came back home after helping Gor Mahia in the continental assignment applauded his players for the performance.

“It’s a win we have been looking for, the defense was solid and the striking force really worked hard. It has given us a good foundation in our upcoming matches hoping to register more wins,” he enthused.

It’s a match that witnessed two red cards, with Vihiga United’s Junior Defai receiving his marching orders in the 81st minute for an unbecoming tackle on Simon Mbugi while Posta’s Odete Charles Odete was also sent off in the 90th minute, lasting only 10 minutes on the pitch.

According to Omollo, both players deserved the red cards as they could have avoided the mistakes.

Vihiga head coach Sammy Okoth said they expected nothing but a win in Sunday’s match.

“We were slow, failed to play as we normally do. We failed to utilize our chances,” Okoth said.

Okoth added that failure to recruit more players is also a key factor in their poor run adding they’ll have to go to the drawing board.

Rangers who face Ulinzi Stars in their next assignment  are now placed eighth with nine points while Vihiga United who will be playing champions Gor Mahia are 15th with five points.
