Ojee to skipper Shujaa at Hamilton, Sydney Sevens

KCB winger Jacob Ojee marks his return to the national sevens team as he was named as the team’s captain for the Hamilton and Sydney Sevens by head coach Paul ‘Pau’ Murunga.

Homeboyz scrum half Michael Wanjala was named as the vice captain to add to other senior players which includes; winger Cyprian Kuto and Homeboyz’s Bush Mwale from the 15’s side.

Murunga named five debutants in the squad including 15’s player William Reeve joined by Menengai Oilers forward Harold Anduvate, Brian Wandera of Homeboyz, Mwamba 7s captain Eliakim Kichoi and Mark Wandetto.

Homeboyz Johnstone Olindi and Daniel Taabu alongside Vincent Onyala who all played at Dubai and Cape Town 7s are also in the squad.

Eden Agero, who captained Shujaa during their opening two rounds of the HSBC World Sevens Series season of Dubai and Cape Town was left out of the squad.

Other senior players includes; Winger Collins Injera, Dennis Ombachi, Nelson Oyoo, flanker Andrew Amonde, centre Willy Ambaka, Billy Odhiambo, full back Sammy Oliech, and lock Dan Sikuta who refused to sign the new contracts with KRU.

During the unveiling of the squad Murunga said; “As the season progress, we will have more players exposed to the international series. We saw a good number do well in the Cape Town sevens and we’re looking forward to seeing how the new call ups will perform in the Hamilton and Sydney Sevens.”

On his part Kenya Rugby Union chairman Richard Omwela said; “We are fully behind the squad that has been named today by head coach Paul Murunga.”
