Okari named MVP as Morans triumph in Zone Five

Kenya’s Morans were crowned Zone 5 champions and their star player Tyler Okari named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) to cap off their championship victory in Lugogo, Uganda.

The Morans and Egypt had a 3-1 win ratio but the Kenyan side had thumped the Pharaohs 97-79 and as per head to head comparison, Moran’s emerged zone 5 champions.

Kenya opened their campaign with a 70-61 rout over hosts Uganda before the Moran’s thumped Egypt to set the win ratio to 2:0, with the Pharaohs having 1:1 win ratio after smashing Rwanda 68-59.

However, Egypt leaped back to their winning ways clipping Uganda 73-64 to table a win ratio of 2:1 with the Moran’s finding their spar once more to flatten Tanzania 112-74 to set their win ratio to 3:0.

Morans slump to their first defeat as Rwanda humbled them to an 85-66 loss, while the Pharaohs bowed Tanzania to a 97-61 loss to equal the Moran’s on a 3:1 win ratio.

The Pharaohs seized the second position with Hosts Uganda claiming the Third position with a 2:2 win ratio, while winless Tanzania finished fourth.

Zone 5 winners Kenya and second-placed Eqypt who got a wild card, have been confirmed for the inaugural FIBA AfroCan that has been organized for players based in Africa and will take place from July 19 in Bamako, Mali.

Morans will battle entrants including Hosts Mali, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Senegal, Nigeria, Guinea and Mozambique.
