Okello hits double as Gor switch off Stima

Substitute Tito Okello stepped off the bench to score a superb double as champions Gor Mahia edged Western Stima 3-1 during Monday’s FKF Premier League clash at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

Samuel Onyango had scored the opening goal but Villa Oromchan equalised for the hosts to ensure the tie went into the break locked in a 1-1 stalemate, before Okello settled the tie after a memorable cameo.

Onyango did well to chase down a hopeful ball from captain Kenneth Muguna into the right flank and Tito Okello’s shot, who was connected to finish flew over the bar.

Gor won a freekick in the left area when Clifton Miheso was brought down and a beautiful delivery by Muguna was intercepted with Benson Omala going for it.

Omala drove towards his man and eventually got his shot away but goalkeeper was equal to the effort.

Oromchan intercepted a poorly controlled ball from Charles Momanyi but rushed his shot when he should have held up his man, and laid it across for Wahongo who had raced into a promising position.

A quick goal kick left Okello with only Vincent Oluoch to deal with, beating him after some neat footwork but pushed the ball into a difficult angle and had to square for Miheso.

The winger’s first touch let him down and Junior Mukisa was able to pinch the ball away as the hosts survived another dangerous attack.

Okello was causing all sorts of trouble for Stima with his quick burst acceleration and trickery proving a nightmare for Oluoch who was beaten again but a sliding Omalla was unable to apply any touch on his low cross.

The lanky forward capped his cameo with a superb goal from the edge of the area, dropping his shoulder to dummy and firing into the top corner for an unstoppable finish.

The result propels Gor to ninth on the FKF-PL log with nine points after five matches, still boasting of three matches in hand.

Stima remain 16th with five points, just two above Mathare United who won their first of the season on Monday at home, beating visiting Zoo Kericho 2-0.

Zoo thus drops to 18th, having drawn twice in their previous two matches.
