Okoth hopes to lead Vihiga United to top 10 finish in FKF-PL

Vihiga United FC head coach Sammy Okoth says their target to finish among the top ten this season is still achievable despite the sluggish start to the 2020-2021 FKF Premier League campaign.

The Vihiga-based side have found it difficult to cement a mid-table position in the top division four months after they were promoted and currently find themselves sitting just a point above the relegation zone in 15th spot.

However, Okoth is upbeat his charges will overcome the stuttering start and achieve their top-ten finish target.

“Relegation survival is not our target but to finish in the top ten”, Okoth said, adding; “We have not amassed enough points to put us where we would want to be so we have work to do and we must start by going all out to win as many matches as possible.”

United will be eyeing their third win of the season on Thursday when they face Kariobangi Sharks in a mid-week tie at the Mumias Sugar Sports Complex in Kakamega County.

“We have not been clinical in front of goal by failing to score even when we create chances and this is what we must rectify. When we play these teams we have to score goals before thinking of how to defend your goals and that is how teams collect maximum points.

“About new signings, we are not in a hurry to bolster our squad but we are going to be busy in the market to bring in some few new faces,” he added.

Last weekend, United went down 1-0 against second placed KCB who are just one point adrift of league leaders Tusker FC.
